This is a procedure to reshape the nose. It may be performed via an open or closed technique depending on the areas that need addressing such as
· Straightening of the nose
· Correction of dorsal hump
· Narrowing of nose
· Tip work
Options
The options are either a Closed technique where the scars are placed within the nostril area, or an Open technique where the only visible scar is in the columella region and the rest within the nostril area.
Procedure
The operation is performed under a General Anaesthetic and takes 1-2 hours. Whether an open or closed technique is used and what changes need to be made will be discussed in the clinic prior to your operation. A nasal pack is usually placed which is removed after a few hours. If the nose is narrowed and bone work done then a splint will also be applied which will need to stay for 7-10 days. Patients can return to work in 2 weeks and full activity in 4-6 weeks. With the open technique the post operative swelling can take a few months to settle before the final result is seen.
The surgical techniques for Rhinoplasty have advanced but there are limitations as to the results that can be achieved. It is therefore extremely important to communicate clearly with your surgeon and have realistic expectations for complete satisfaction with the result.
