Wrinkles, loss of facial volume, thinning of the skin and pigmentary changes are all features of the ageing face. Contributing to these are the effects of gravity, sun damage and smoking.
Various modalities of non surgical treatments such as Botox® , Hyaluronic acid fillers, Microneedling, PRP [Plasma rich platelet] therapy, Laser and PDO threads are available rejuvenate the skin and provide a more youthful appearance.
Many varieties of dermal fillers are available in the market and can be divided into semi-permanent, permanent or temporary fillers.
Temporary Fillers [6 months-2 years] – Hyaluronic Acid, Poly-L-lactic acid
Semi Permanent [2-5 years] – Calcium hydroxyapatite
Permanent Fillers [> 5 years] – Autologous fat, Silicone, Polymethylmethacrylate.
We use fillers which contain Hyaluronic Acid [HA]. Hyaluronic Acid is a glycosaminoglycan biopolymer that forms part of the extracellular matrix of the skin and plays an important role in its hydration. As a part of the ageing process there is progressive diminution of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the dermal layer. The HA fillers work by increasing hydration and plumping the skin, softening the face and improving the skin texture to give a fresh youthful appearance.
These fillers can be used to restore volume or augment areas such as the cheek, lips, the chin area and nose.
They are also useful to reduce the prominence of nasolabial folds, grooving in the chin, Marionette lines and for deep wrinkle correction in conjunction with Botulinium toxin type A.
HA Fillers last for 1-2 years and the new range of fillers contain a local anaesthetic which makes the procedure more comfortable. It is done in the outpatient clinic and takes 10-15 minutes.
